About Us

In 2006, a group of dedicated Caribbean leaders along with the Caribbean American Young Adults Social and Civic Organization (CAYASCO) partnered with our host Riverfront Recapture Inc. to present the first Taste of the Caribbean & Jerk Festival. At that time a vision was articulated to help enhance the City of Hartford’s revitalization efforts. In its inaugural year, an estimated 7,000 people from a variety of economic backgrounds, nationalities and races visited the Riverfront Plaza. Since its inception, the Taste of the Caribbean & Jerk Festival has grown exponentially.

The Taste of the Caribbean Arts & Culture CT, Inc., which is now a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded, and has been the organizer and promoter of the festival ever since. The Taste of the Caribbean & Jerk Festival provides a medium through which we promote, educate and showcase the arts and diverse cultures of the Caribbean. People come from all over to sample our world-famous foods as well as to experience the Caribbean. Our patrons are entertained via scrumptious culinary delights, sight and sound presented by displays of costumes and live music ranging from Reggae, Soca, Salsa, Jazz, Calypso, Steel Band and Gospel. In fact; the festival has become one of Hartford’s signature family-oriented events.

Additionally

The Children’s Village offers a variety of cultural games and activities for the youngsters. The Taste of the Caribbean & Jerk Festival is held annually on the first Saturday in August and is representative of the English, French, Spanish and Indo-Caribbean islands
